PHOTOGRAPHY FROM THE HEART: Charles Niël (1960) is a mainly self trained Dutch photographer, although he studied at the \"fotovakschool\" in Amsterdam. His work is based on expressing emotion rather then telling stories. A composition takes hours, postprocessing days to weeks.. He seeks for interfaces between photography and painting. The classical Dutch painters from the Golden Age are his main inspiration. Based on their use of light Charles formed his own consistent, recognizable and contemporary style. His work speaks for it self: it comes to life without explanation. Nature is allways his starting point. In his portraiture he strives for authenticity. He has a studio and galery in the medieval centre of the Dutch city Deventer.
